What is fine silver? How does it compare to sterling silver?

Fine silver is 99.9% pure silver. Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% some other alloy (typically copper). Sterling silver is prone to tarnishing due to the other alloys. Fine silver, on the other hand, tarnishes very slowly.

From my perspective, fine silver is a great metal to work with when creating jewelry. Because it can be fused to itself, it eliminates the need for much of the soldering and polishing equipment found in a typical jewelry studio.
